Wednesday, April 10, 2019 | News

Recently voted one of the top ‘30 Bloody Best Genre Fests in the World’ by MovieMaker, Grimmfest has announced that scream queen and 2018 Lifetime Achievement award-winner Barbara Crampton (known for her roles in Re-Animator and You’re Next) will be chairing this year’s awards jury.

Barbara will also be joined by five other prestigious figures in genre filmmaking, including Jennifer Handorf (film producer with credits including Prevenge, The Chamber, The Borderlands, The Forgotten, and The Devil’s Business), Amanda Presmyk (film producer for Fangoria and Cinestate, with credits including Dragged Across Concrete, Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, and Satanic Panic), Anton Bitel (film critic for Sight & Sound, Little White Lies, and SciFiNow), Nikki Baughan (film critic for Screen International, Sight and Sound, and The List) and James Fler (sales agent for Raven Banner Entertainment).

Grimmfest will be bringing the very best in new independent genre cinema to the Odeon Great Northern in Manchester this October 3rd-6th. Following the success of last year’s inaugural awards scheme, the festival will once again be offering fantastic prizes, including a total of £120,000 in post-production services.

The awards jury will view the films selected for the festival and determine the winners of the awards, which are sponsored by organizations at the forefront of genre cinema. Awards include Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Short Film, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Score, Best Actor/Actress, Best SFX, Best Kill, and Best Scare. Grimmfest will also present three additional awards for the 2019 festival, including Best Work-In-Progress, Lifetime Achievement Award, and Audience Award.

Interested in submitting to the festival? Short and feature-length film submissions are currently being accepted via FilmFreeway. The regular submissions deadline is July 7th and the late deadline is August 4th. Selected films will be eligible for awards consideration.
