Get your dose of scares this fall at the inaugural Vancouver Horror Show (VHS) Film Festival. Presented by Fresh as a Daisy Films, the VHS Film Festival premiers October 23rd, 2018 at the Cinematheque Theatre in downtown Vancouver, BC. A first of it’s kind for the city of Vancouver, the VHS Film Festival is a one night event celebrating achievements in short horror from local and international filmmakers.
The VHS Film Festival is set to highlight the terrifying and macabre work from storytellers all over the world and is curated by the programming team including Founder, David Taylor; Artistic Director, Lloyd Darling; Director of Programming, Meghan Hemingway; VP of Shorts, Connor J. Campbell; and Program Advisors, Jon McIntyre and Majd Qutob.

Selections and awards will be determined by a panel of the VHS judges. Awards include: Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Performance in a Leading Role, Best Performance in a Supporting Role, Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Music, and Best Writing. There will also be an audience award called the VHS Short but Sweet Audience Choice Award, and an award exclusively for student film submissions entitled the VHS Emerging Filmmaker Award.
The 2018 Festival Sponsorship levels have been categorized under some of the most recognizable names in horror. Starting at the (Jordan) Peele Sponsorship level, contributions start at $100 and move all the way up to the (John) Carpenter Sponsorship level, $15,000+. In order to be eligible for the VHS Film Festival, films must be either under 10 minutes or under 20 minutes in length. The official submission deadline is August 3, but late entries will be accepted until September 3.
